Kontraznanje: Kako smo podlegli teorijama zavjere, nadriliječništvu, pseudoznanosti i kvazipovijesti
A book by British journalist Damian Thompson defines counterknowledge as false information packaged to appear as fact, warning of a dangerous trend of suppressing empirical science in contemporary society.
In Counterknowledge: How We Succumbed to Conspiracy Theories, Quackery, Pseudoscience, and Quasi-History, renowned British journalist Damian Thompson dissects the phenomenon of the mass production and dissemination of dangerous nonsense. The author defines counterknowledge as a network of disinformation, false teachings, and alternative facts that are promoted as verified truths through the Internet, mass media, and contemporary "anything goes" culture.
Thompson systematically exposes the mechanisms by which modern society is losing its bearings – from the popularization of dangerous quackery and fake medical preparations that endanger health, through pseudoscientific illusions, to politically motivated quasi-history and conspiracy theories that flourish in the bubbles of online communities. He pays special attention to the role of the media in legitimizing charlatans who, under the guise of "alternative thinking," are given media space equal to experts.
This sharp and uncompromising study represents a powerful defense of rationality, Enlightenment values, and the scientific method in an era of information chaos.
