Gulliver's Travels is a renowned adventure-satire novel by the Irish writer Jonathan Swift. The protagonist is Lemuel Gulliver, an educated physician and sailor who, during his voyages, experiences numerous extraordinary adventures and encounters unknown lands, their inhabitants, customs, and social structures.

On his first voyage, following a shipwreck, Gulliver arrives in Lilliput, a land of tiny people to whom he appears as a giant. Although their conflicts and political issues initially seem significant to him, he gradually realizes how senseless their disputes are and the extent to which vanity, the desire for power, and personal interests lie behind them. On his second voyage, he reaches Brobdingnag, a land of giants, where the situation is completely reversed: Gulliver is now small and powerless, observing the human world from a new perspective. In subsequent adventures, he encounters other unusual societies through which Swift critiques politics, war, science, human arrogance, and irrationality.

The novel can be read as an exciting tale of journeys to fantastical lands, yet beneath the extraordinary events lies a powerful satire of society and human nature. By altering Gulliver's size, status, and surroundings, Swift demonstrates how human values, conflicts, and social norms can appear vastly different when viewed from a different perspective. This edition for students, prepared by Dragutin Brigljević, introduces young readers to one of the most famous works of world literature.
