Junaci duha kršćanskoga: Sveti Srijemski mučenici
The book presents historical and hagiographical accounts of the early Christian martyrs of Syrmia, who sacrificed their lives during Roman persecutions and left a profound mark on the Church's heritage.
The work Heroes of the Christian Spirit: The Holy Martyrs of Syrmia is dedicated to the rich early Christian history and spiritual heritage of ancient Syrmia (Sirmium)—a region that, during Late Antiquity, served as one of the Roman Empire's most important Christian and administrative centers. The book examines the lives, deeds, and martyrdom of prominent Christian witnesses to the faith who, during the great persecutions—particularly under Emperors Diocletian and Maximian in the early 4th century—sacrificed their lives for their faith. Through hagiographic accounts, historical sources, and theological reflections, the work presents in detail figures such as Saint Irenaeus (the first known Bishop of Sirmium), Deacon Demetrius, Saint Quirinus, Saint Anastasia, the Four Crowned Martyrs (stonemasons), and many others whose witness left a lasting mark on the early Church. The author emphasizes their unwavering faith, courage, and devotion to Christ’s teachings during times of extreme trial. The work holds exceptional significance for the preservation of local and national religious identity, offering readers not only historical insight into the origins and spread of Christianity in the region but also timeless spiritual role models for daily Christian life.
