Manja djela: Čudnovita dveh kaputov zmešarija Slavka / Glas od Gradne / Književno pismo / Kapetan Izailo / Mešterski list
The twelfth volume of the Collected Works of August Šenoa – a collection of smaller prose and journalistic works: humorous stories, satire, literary letters and historical sketches from the pen of the most significant Croatian writer of the 19th century.
August Šenoa – Minor Works (Collected Works, Book XII) is a valuable selection of lesser-known, but very interesting, prose and journalistic texts by Šenoa.
This volume contains:
- Čudnovita dveh kaputov žmesarija Slavka – a witty and satirical story full of Šenoa’s characteristic humor and irony towards bourgeois society.
- Glas od Gradne – a powerful and patriotic story with historical motifs.
- Knjíževno písmo – polemical and critical texts in which Šenoa expresses his opinions on literature and the cultural state of the people.
- Kapetan Izailo – a romantic-historical story.
- Mešterski list – one of Šenoa’s more famous humorous sketches.
The book provides a cross-section of Šenoa’s diverse literary activity – from light humor and satire, through historical themes, to literary criticism and journalism. The style is lively, rich in language and typically Šenoa: dynamic, picturesque and full of patriotism.
Older, respected edition by Stjepan Kugli (Zagreb), hardcover, high-quality printing on better paper – a classic edition of the Collected Works of August Šenoa, which is today considered bibliophile.
Volume XII of the Collected Works in the Kugli edition is highly sought after by collectors. Complete or partial editions of Kugli's Collected Works of Šenoa are among the most highly regarded antiquarian series of Croatian literature of the 20th century.
We recommend it to August Šenoa fans, collectors of old Croatian editions and to all who want to get to know the lesser-known sides of the great writer The Peasants' Revolt and The Goldsmith's Gold. An excellent addition to any serious literary collection.
