Krist, sakramenat susreta s Bogom
A classic theological work on the sacraments as living encounters with God. Schillebeeckx presents Jesus Christ as a sacrificial lamb, and the Church and the sacraments as a continuation of His presence in history.
"Christ, Sacrament of the Encounter with God" (originally Christus, sacrament van de Godontmoeting) is one of the most influential and important theological works of the 20th century, written by Edward Schillebeeckx, a Belgian Dominican and one of the leading theologians of the Second Vatican Council. The book made a profound shift in sacramental theology, shifting the emphasis from the legal-scholastic understanding of the sacraments to a personalistic and existential understanding.
The author's central thesis is that the sacraments are not just rituals or mere channels of grace, but personal, living encounters of man with God. Schillebeeckx develops the idea that Jesus Christ himself is the "primordial sacrament" (fundamental sacrament) — the visible sign and presence of the invisible God in human history. Further, the Church is the fundamental sacrament of Christ, while the seven individual sacraments are concrete, visible acts in which the risen Christ in the Holy Spirit continues to encounter man at the key moments of his life.
Written with exceptional theological depth and precision, this study brings together patristic tradition, New Testament exegesis, and contemporary phenomenology. The book is essential reading for theologians, students, and all who wish to deepen their understanding of sacramental life and experience faith as a living dialogue and personal relationship with God.
