Zašto je Marx bio u pravu

In seinem polemischen und kontroversen Buch „Why Marx Was Right“ beschäftigt sich Terry Eagleton mit dem Vorurteil, der Marxismus sei tot und überwunden. Karl Marx zu verherrlichen, könnte genauso pervers erscheinen, wie sich für den Boston Strangler einzusetzen. Waren Marx‘ Ideen nicht verantwortlich für Despotismus, Massenmord, Arbeitslager, wirtschaftliches Desaster und den Verlust der Freiheit für Millionen von Männern und Frauen? War nicht einer seiner treuen Anhänger ein paranoider georgischer Bauer namens Stalin und der andere ein brutaler chinesischer Diktator, an dessen Händen leicht das Blut von etwa dreißig Millionen Angehörigen seines Volkes klebte? Es stimmt jedoch, dass Marx für die enorme Unterdrückung der kommunistischen Welt in etwa ebenso verantwortlich ist wie Jesus für die Inquisition. Einerseits würde Marx sich über die Idee lustig machen, dass der Sozialismus in verzweifelt verarmten, chronisch rückständigen Gesellschaften wie Russland und China Fuß fassen könnte.

In seiner Analyse jeder dieser Kritikpunkte zeigt Eagleton, dass sie nur eine erbärmliche Travestie von Marx‘ ursprünglichem Gedanken sind. In einer Welt, in der große Krisen den Kapitalismus grundlegend erschüttert haben, ist das Buch „Warum Marx Recht hatte“ ebenso notwendig und aktuell wie mutig und gewagt.

Das Buch ist mit Eagletons typischem Sinn für Witz, Humor und Klarheit geschrieben und wird eine viel breitere Leserschaft als das klassische akademische Publikum ansprechen.
