Robinson Crusoe

Robinson Crusoe

Daniel Defoe

Daniel Defoe's novel Robinson Crusoe, published in 1719, follows the life and twenty-eight-year survival of an English castaway on a desert island, celebrating human resourcefulness and spirit.

In the classic of world literature Robinson Crusoe, author Daniel Defoe writes an exciting adventure story inspired by the real-life experiences of sailors like Alexander Selkirk. The plot follows the young and rebellious Robinson who leaves his comfortable home in England against the wishes of his parents to sail the world's seas. After a series of maritime accidents, his ship sinks, and he ends up the sole survivor on a remote, uninhabited island off the coast of South America.

Faced with harsh nature, loneliness, and a lack of basic necessities, Crusoe does not lose heart. Through hard work, patience, and the application of practical knowledge, he eventually manages to build a shelter, grow food, tame animals, and organize his life. A key turning point occurs when, after many years, he saves a native from cannibals, names him Friday, and forms a touching friendship with him that changes his loneliness.

This monumental work is not only an adventure novel, but also a profound meditation on human resilience, colonialism, faith, and the individual's ability to overcome life's greatest adversities.
