Oton Župančič

The Selection of Oton Župančič's Lyrics, edited by Jože Pogačnik, brings together anthological verses by one of the leaders of Slovenian modernism and a top European poet.

The collection Lirik (Poetry) by the great Slovenian poet Oton Župančič, selected and with an extensive afterword by the distinguished literary historian Jože Pogačnik, presents a cross-section of the exceptional poetic oeuvre that has profoundly marked Slovenian literary modernity. The selection includes key poems from his most important collections, tracing the evolution of his poetic expression from intimate and impressionistic motifs, through strong national and social themes, to profound philosophical and cosmic reflections on man, nature and existence.

In these verses, Župančič confirms himself as a master of rhythm, sound expression and linguistic flexibility, bringing vitality, tremendous energy and modern European sensibility to Slovenian poetry. Pogačnik's afterword expertly and analytically contextualizes the author's oeuvre, emphasizing its enduring aesthetic value and crucial role in shaping the modern Slovenian poetic language.
