Marie de France

The poems abound with the fairy enchantment of the Breton world, while at the same time providing a depiction of medieval court life in the 12th century.

Marie de France permanently placed characters such as Tristan and Isolde and King Arthur and the knight Lanval, metaphorical images of nature (goat blood) and elements of fantasy (the werewolf) in European cultural heritage.
