Graham Hancock

Graham Hancock (born in Edinburgh on August 2, 1950) is a British writer, journalist, and author known for his books on ancient civilizations, archaeological mysteries, mythology, and alternative interpretations of human prehistory. He spent part of his childhood in India and graduated with a degree in sociology from Durham University in 1973. He built his journalistic career writing for British newspapers and magazines, and in the early 1980s, he served as an East Africa correspondent for The Economist.
His early books focused on contemporary political and social issues. He published Journey Through Pakistan, Ethiopia: The Challenge of Hunger, and AIDS: The Deadly Epidemic, while his book Lords of Poverty (1989) offered a critical analysis of the international development aid industry. By the early 1990s, his interests had increasingly shifted toward historical and archaeological mysteries.
He gained widespread international popularity with the book The Sign and the Seal (1992)—which focused on the search for the Ark of the Covenant—and, in particular, with Fingerprints of the Gods (1995). In the latter, he proposed the hypothesis that a developed prehistoric culture—whose legacy influenced later civilizations—might have existed prior to the known civilizations of the ancient world. This idea became a central theme in much of his subsequent work. Among his best-known books are Keeper of Genesis (co-authored with Robert Bauval), Heaven’s Mirror, Underworld, Supernatural, Magicians of the Gods, and America Before. He has also written fiction, including the novel Entangled and the War God series.
In his books, Hancock connects archaeology, myths, astronomy, geology, climate catastrophes, and ancient monuments, seeking to offer an alternative reconstruction of the distant human past. His hypotheses regarding a lost advanced civilization are not accepted by mainstream archaeology and are considered controversial, whereas Hancock presents his work as a challenge to established models of prehistory.
The popularity of his books, lectures, and documentary projects has made him one of the most renowned contemporary authors of alternative history and prehistory.
